Red, White, and Food

ImageThere is nothing more patriotic then whipping up a feast for your friends and family to share before you watch the fireworks to the same sound track they play every year. Here are some quick red, white, and blue filled ideas to spice up your own gathering or to bring spice to someone else’s. They are filled with berries not only because the colors are so festive, but also summer is an awesome time to enjoy these little delights, as they are at their sweetest.

 

Pour Up Drank!

Red: Strawberry-Basil Lemonade- Boil 1 cup of sugar and water with three sprigs of mint and 8 sliced strawberries, pour into prepared lemonade (pairs nicely with gin)

White- Sangria! Use a nice crisp Riesling or Moscato if you want some sparkle, soak pineapples, apples, and white nectarines  in brandy and a ½ cup of sugar for at least an hour, combine together

Blue-Blueberry-Mint Lemonade- Same idea as the strawberry but use like a pack of blueberries and three sprigs of mint, strain into pre-prepared lemonade (pairs amazingly with vodka)

 

Satisfying Snacks

Use red tortillas to make wraps with you favorite meats, cheeses, and veggies

Toss some wings with this amazing blueberry chipotle sauce!

1 container blueberries, ¼ cup sugar, ¼ cup canned pureed chipotle chilies,1/2 juice of lemon, zest of one orange, ¼ cup water boil together

White dips galore- use yogurt, sour cream, or mayo and mix in onion powder, garlic salt, dried parsley or cheat and use the ranch packets from the store!

 

Don’t forget dessert!

Red and Blue Jello Stars with Whipped cream- follow the directions on the jello package, cut out with a star cutter and serve with freshly whipped cream!

Nothin is more American then a S’more! Spread graham crackers with blueberry/strawberry jam, roast a marshmallow, press together, and feel the fireworks of deliciousness explode in your mouth!

So don’t bring the normal boring things to the potluck you attend this year try one of these ideas today!

my life has been a very interesting journey thus far. in my quarter century crisis im and not certain of much except that i love cooking and entertaining, and pleasing people is my passion. (wait that sounded a little funny) i am goofy eccentric, and love to laugh, in fact i often laugh at the most inappropriate times. i place high value in honesty and working hard. i don’t really believe in faking it until you make it, without some base knowledge or some sort of depth to your cause. i believe in making mistakes and trying everything once as long as you bring yourself no harm and no harm to others. i am a new age hippy, my words to live by are freedom, serenity, and love. i look for signs of the world and listen. i do judge, anyone who says they do not is a liar, but i use my judgements against you to reflect back on me to see how i can better myself. i hate constraints of our society, including grammar, punctuation, and recipes. i think fast except when it comes to numbers. the culinary world has always been and shall be my safe haven and outlet. i want to inspire, teach, and learn.
