As I begin to write this culinary blog let me preface it by saying I hate blogs and I hate recipes. In this day and age blogs have become as common as shoelaces, and most are not tied. This generation wants everything now, the latest the greatest, we are constantly checking our twitters, facebooks, and instagrams-we don’t want to miss out. Unfortunately this is exactly the kind of attitude that makes us miss out. As we are buried in our smartphones life is happening all around us. We have stopped noticing the subtle nuances of life that makes it so beautiful, the little girl sleeping peacefully on her father on the train, the way the birds fly over the sky, even the smell of fresh baked cookies as you walk past a bakery. Our senses are dulling as our minds become overloaded with useless information. Blogs are the epitome of “now” news, releasing information into the world as soon as it is thought, no matter if the thought is complete or not. These incomplete thoughts can be as dangerous as the untied shoelaces, tripping up those who are silly enough to take every word as truth without understanding there is a bigger picture.
The world is too great for me or any other blogger to believe that their words are so important that they should be taken as fact. This brings to me for my hate of recipes. The culinary world is too fluid for strict measurements and rules. Besides for the scientifics of baking there are no facts in cooking, merely techniques you apply in the creative process. My goal in creating this culinary blog is to create a discussion around food and inspire the unadventurous, afraid, and lazy people who have been staying out of the kitchen. I can assure you cooking is not hard. Food is truly an expression of love and a strong base of human connection.
It is my hope that this blog will do three things. One, show that cooking is not hard! Two give people the tools they need to be inspired to create their own masterpieces. Three, create a human discussion/connection that is so lacking in this world. It is my belief that cooking for yourself and others is the first step in slowing down, appreciating life, and reawakening our senses. All of our paths are different in life, this blog is like a map of my path, and I hope you chose to cross it from time to time.
